And welcome to my first newsletter! I realized that there was no easy way for visitors on my websites to easily be kept in the loop. So, I decided to start this. I will use this newsletter to share news in 5 different categories that I shall premiere all already in this first issue: awards, software, writings, creative works, and events.
AWARDS
Marie-Curie Postdoc Fellowship
I was recently selected for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions award. This means that, starting next June, I will be a Postdoctoral Fellow hosted by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Coimbra. I will be working on my new project named Integrated Interdisciplinary Music Practice And Quantum Computing Technologies (IIMPAQCT).
WRITING
OSC-Qasm published on Springer
April 1st, the paper OSC-Qasm: Interfacing Music Software with Quantum Computing was finally published on Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. OSC-Qasm is an open source, and cross-platform OSC interface for executing Qasm code (human readable quantum circuit definition). It serves as a simple way to connect different creative environments like Max (with The QAC Toolkit) and Pure Data with real quantum hardware.
EVENTS
QC Workshop at UC
On the last March 15th, I presented my work on Quantum Computing and Music at the first QC Workshop at University of Coimbra. This event kickstarted a new partnership between UC and IBM, and served as a great opportunity for the different researchers on QC in Coimbra to get to meet each other.
Presenting at EvoMUSART
On the 12th of April, at 3:15pm (CET), I will be presenting the OSC-Qasm project, at the EvoMUSART International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Music, Sound, Art and Design. This is one of 4 simultaneous EvoStar conferences, taking place both online and in-person in Brno, Czech Republic, and you can check the detailed program here.
SOFTWARE
PVM v0.5 released
Pi Video Machine (PVM) is an open source, raspberry-based, video player machine for art installation work that is scalable and synchronized over the network. It is a collaboration with Grant Speich that emerged in the wake of The Gedanken Roomproduction when we started working with multiple video streams. Version 0.5 has just been released and includes more complete documentation. You are welcome to try it out and engage with current open issues on github to contribute to its development.
Polyphonic Rituals, released on bandcamp last Feb 3rd, tells a story about Music and Painting in 13 movements. It is a record of interdisciplinary inquiries on seemingly intangible connections through sound, color, meditation, and movement. This is also the result of a close collaboration with STArt and Carly Seller since summer 2022. (my own favorite track: movement VIII).
