Hello Reader, Coming in very quickly with a small collection of news for things happening very soon. I am in the middle of a packet itinerary, so apologies for not adding more to this intro. If this is the first newsletter you're receiving, I'm usually not this rushed, as you can confirm from previous editions backed up here. And please do share this with anyone who might be interested in signing up. WRITINGQuantum computing inspired paintingsThe new collective QC-PAINT, see also other news below, has a new paper in preprint on arxiv. It is called "Quantum computing inspired paintings: reinterpreting classical masterpieces" and it describes the process of reinterpreting classical paintings, from Caravaggio to Richter, using the time evolution of an Ising Hamiltonian on a quantum computation. EVENTSIntroducing QC-PAINT at EQTCFor the past 12 months I've been working with a team of researchers from DESY-CQTA on a project to integrate quantum computing with traditional oil painting. One of the paintings, "Quantum Transformation I: Caravaggio", based on Narciso by Caravaggio, is on display on November 18 at EQTC. The team includes the painter-turned-physicist (turned-painter again?) Arianna Crippa, Yahui Chai, Paulo Itaborai, and Professor Karl Jansen. The name of the group, QC-PAINT, is a play on words from our names. It will be accompanied by a scientific poster with a description of the process explained in detail on the paper. Interactive Canvas & QAC at EQTCIn collaboration with Sarah Trotter Art, I envisioned and developed a new interactive canvas to be presented in lieu of a scientific poster at EQTC. This is a canvas that is touch sensitive, which displays different examples of QAC (Quantum-computing Aided Composition) in the companion mobile web app. The work is an artistic and technological interpretation of "Quantum Circuits for Creativity", taken from the perspective of something to be tangible and experienced in person. It will be on display on November 19, at Culturgest. Community.quantumland.art updatesIn the past couple of months there's been several updates and reflections on the Community. These include new contributions to the database, some issues being finally fixed, discussions about the platform itself, and many events being shared. Karl Jansen & Arianna Crippa in CoimbraI'm pleased to share that, within the context of the Specialized training Course in Quantum Computing and Technologies at the University of Coimbra, I organized a double-bill QUEST Open Day talkOn November 28, I will be delivering a talk on "Quantum Computing for Music & Art" at The Cyprus Institute, within the context of the QUEST Open Day. This event will include other talks by other experts in the field. QUEST is an ERA Chair project between DESY and The Cyprus Institute. SOFTWAREKeyboard Monitor updateThe Keyboard Monitor max for live device, done in collaboration with the LA producer and ableton teacher Side Brain (aka Yeuda Ben Atar), has just received an important update. The new version now includes a chord detector and it is also resizable. CREATIVE WORKQuantum Itineraries WeekMy good collaborator Paulo Itaborai has produced a series of concerts in Cyprus, on November 27, 28, and 29. This Quantum Itineraries Week will include a concert on the 27th, "Audiovisual Alchemy: Crafting sound on visual live", featuring live soundtracks to a selection of short movies, a concert on the 28th, "Variational Quantum Harmonies", featuring works using Itaborala's latest quantum computer music software (VQH), where I will perform a new piece for saxophone and electronics called "backflip", and a concert on the 29th, "Qubit Echoes", featuring a wider selection of works, including a new live performance of Jupiter meets Saturn (with me, STArt, and Grant Speich). Program notes and tickets for all these concerts below. breathe in... and breathe out... Unsubscribe · Preferences |
